Year 1

Year 1 of Disciples includes extensive worship plans for five services. They are designed to coordinate with the 35 devotions in Follow Me: Daily Readings for Disciples and with the first group discussion guide, Follow Me. These five worship services provide a strong “kick-off” for a discipleship emphasis by grounding it in worship, the central focus of congregational life.

Alternative Approach #1 – Five Services Spaced Throughout the Year
As an alternative to the five “kick-off” services offered in Follow Me: Resources for Worship, we offer these suggestions for planning five services on Discipleship throughout the year. Each coincides with the major theme of each successive discussion guide: Follow Me, Called, Created, Crafted, and Commissioned.

Service 1: Follow Me (Focus: Discipleship is central to the Christian life.)
Service 2: Called (Focus: Every disciple hears Jesus’ call.)
Service 3: Created (Focus: Disciples are new creations in Jesus Christ.)
Service 4: Crafted (Focus: Disciples are crafted by the Creator and gifted by the Spirit to carry out their unique calling.)
Service 5: Commissioned (Focus: Disciples are commissioned to participate in God’s mission in the world.)

Alternative Approach #2 – Five Services to Start…Then Four More
Want a major emphasis on discipleship in your worship services this year? Kick off the year with the five consecutive services contained in Follow Me: Resources for Worship PLUS use services 2-5 (above) as you start each new discussion guide theme. That gives you a total of nine services focusing on discipleship throughout the year.

Year 2

For Disciples Year 2 we are providing worship resources for two worship services that could serve as a “kick-off” for another year of commitment to discipleship. Service 1 is meant to reinvigorate the congregation’s commitment to and excitement about discipleship. Service 2 will focus on the general theme for this year: The Spiritual Practices (Disciplines) of Disciples. In addition, we are providing worship resources based on each of the specific themes of Year 2: Prayer, Worship, Reading the Bible, Living in Community, and Overcoming Sin.
